South Netherlandish composer and singer. The fact that he celebrated his first mass as a priest in 1426 suggests a date of birth of about 1400--05, while the designation 'de Ludo' sometimes appended to his name is thought to indicate that he was born in the village of Lowaige in the province of Limburg. Throughout his career he had close ties with Liege, where he held benefices at several churches. His earliest and most important connections were with the church of St Jean l'Evangeliste (from c1422) and the cathedral of St Lambert (from 1428), at each of which he for a time held the post of succentor. His associations with both institutions continued into the 1430s, and several of his motets were apparently composed for them. He visited Rome in the mid-1420s, and in 1431 he was listed, with Du Fay, as a singer in the papal chapel; two years later he was admitted to the Council of Basle. It was probably in Basle that he met Emperor Sigismund and began his lengthy spell in imperial service (1434--43), during which he occupied the positions of rector capelle under Sigismund and cantor or rector principalis under his successors Albrecht II and Friedrich III. How continuous this service was is uncertain, but Brassart evidently maintained strong ties with his homeland. From 1442 he served in turn as canon and cantor at the church of Our Lady in Tongeren, but in 1445 apparently exchanged the latter post for that of canon at the collegiate church of St Paul in Liege. Brassart appears to have resided in Liege while continuing his association with Tongeren. A supplication to Pope Calixtus III for the benefice of St Paul confirms that he had died shortly before 22 October 1455.\n\nWegman BSCE\nBrauwere, Nicasius de [Braxatoris]\nfl. 1484-5. 1491. A supplication of September 1436 calls him a member of the papal household, but he was received into the papal chapel as a choirboy in October 1437. He was last paid as a choirboy in March 1441, and was received as an adult singer in the papal chapel immediately in April 1441; he served until July 1450 and then vanishes from Rome. The documentation for his service in the chapel comes chiefly from the Mandati Camerali (monthly payment lists), supplemented by the Supplicazioni and the Registri Latini (which record actual grants of benefices). The fact that he has not been noticed in later Vatican documents simply means no-one has looked for him. Is there any record of his presence at the Burgundian court after 1450? He was probably born about 1424, and his working life may have extended into the 1480s or 1490s.\nRéponse le 12/7/2002 après consultation de Reichert1954, qui propose de confondre Boubay et"]],["elementText",{"elementTextId":"7325"},["text"," Foulsini : An entry of the Preces primariae of the new elected king of the roman, dated Antwerp 7/10/1486, says that a benefice in Arras' big St-Vaast monastery has to be given to 'Johannes de Bubay alias de Viseto'. Would we have here a huge and incredibly complete career with no gaps at all between Rome (1432-1450), Bruges (1452-1461, it fits !! though I must say the Boubert-Boubay connexion didn't convince me that much first), and then imperial courts (1461-1486 at least) ??? This makes Johannes Foulsini - Jonckin (- Juvenis) - Boubert - Bubay - alias de Viseto (a nice name, and very simple !) 62 in 1486 since you calculated Foulsini should be born around 1424... perfect (and even perhaps 'trop beau pour etre vrai' as we say in french).
