Biography
Planchart : Jaques Robaille: documented as a puer altaris in 1407-08 [LAN, 4G 7758 (1407-08), 8v] and 1408-09, when he left the choristers to go to school [LAN, 4G 7758 (1408-09), 8v and 10r]. Although unnamed he must be one of the singers who traveled with Grenon to Rome in 1425 passing through Bologna in May [ASB, Tesoreria, Reg 80, 70r]. He is reported as being in the papal chapel by 20 December 1428 [ASR 1752, 114v], but both his supplications and papal letters mention him as a papal chaplain on 25 June 1427 [ASV, RS 213, 217r-218r] and as a chaplain and singer on 17 August 1428 [ASV, RS 244, 194r-194v]. His association with Grenon is made clear in the supplication where Grenon asks for the canonicate at Cambrai on 10 April 1426 [ASV, RS 197, 93r-94r], since the same petition contains requests from two of Grenon’s choristers and from Robaille for benefices resigned by Grenon, in Robaille’s case a chaplaincy at the altar of the Trinity of Cambrai, which he collated on 07 February 1427 through his proctor Jehan de la Porte [CBM 1056, 176r]. On 17 August 1428 he was granted a canonicate in Amiens on the death of Hotricus de Spernaco, litterarum apostolicarum scriptor, who died in Rome, in 1428 [ASV, RS 244, 194r-194v]. In 1442 Robaille claims “old age” seeking to be relieved of the duty of visiting a parish church he held in Bragny-sur-Saône while still receiving its fruits [ASV, RS 386, 178r-178v]. Robaille is reported as a canon of Amiens from 1429 to 1446, probably the year of his death [Millet, Fasti, I, 135].
